Finally, after being laid off at the end of March. I used to be the production manager at a candle factory. Business kept getting worse and worse and they laid off about 1/3 of the employees and have since sold it and it's moving to North Carolina. At the same time, I was having lots of problems with my ankles and feet which is probably arthritis, but could be a couple other things, so I couldn't get another job that would require my being on my feet most of the time. Had a terrible time finding a job because of that, and because I'd get told I was over qualified for a lot of the jobs I applied for that I could sit at.
A couple weeks ago one of my friends suggested that I change my cover letter to indicate that I was trying to switch careers and that an entry level job would be perfect for that. Sounded like a good idea, so I did. Almost immediately, I started getting more interviews, and Friday I interviewed at a cruise line for a phone reservation job. Today they called me and hired me!!!!!!!!
This job is going to be so sweet. I've done customer assistance on the phone before, but a long time ago, so I know what it's like, and I know I can do a good job at it. The pay is better than a lot of other similar jobs, and they have GREAT benefits, one of the odder ones being that sometimes they have foodie type cruises and the employee cafeteria is fitted out like a ship galley and the celeb chefs come and cook there and try the food out on the employees! *drools*
God, I knew I was a bit depressed and stressed out, especially since my unemployment ran out at the end of September and I was having to get money from my Dad to pay my rent and stuff, but I didn't realize how bad I really was until today when it all went away.
*does a happy dance*
Sometimes I think I'd like to just disappear. Not totally, I'd let the people that I know truly care about me know I was ok, but sometimes I'd just like to go away and be a different person. Every 7-10 years I seem to find myself re-inventing myself anyway because of some sort of life trauma/drama type thing, and this time I just keep thinking how much I'd like to go away and be someone else.
I know you can't hide, but oh damn..... I wish I could.
Our local Western Hockey League team is playing up in Kamloops tonight, next week will be their first home game.
And next weekend will be the first televised NHL game!! I'm SO freaking happy it's not even funny.
I remember someone that I used to date years ago once told me that it wasn't easy to date me during hockey season because I reminded them of someone in a wife beater t-shirt and a beer sitting and watching the game on TV. Oh well, too bad. Next time I start dating someone (if I ever do) I'll remember to make sure they're a hockey fan!

]]>Or should that be Voxers?? Heh. You'll have to excuse me, I'm in a rather silly mood right now. OK, not silly, I'm fried on pain pills, but it amounts to the same thing, at least as far as it involves you lovely folks!
Steroids are a wonderful thing, they make me a little bit hyper which gives me extra energy, and they've actually helped quite a bit. One foot/heel/ankle is pretty much normal all the time, and the other one is better enough so that I can always put my shoes on AND the pain pills actually kill the pain when I take them. As a matter of fact, I hardly ever have to take the prescription pain pills, most of the time I just take ibuprofen now. And I'm starting to accept the fact that I'll probably be on freaking steroids for a long long time. At least it's not a high enough dose to cause moon face!
Now if one of the places I've been madly applying at would only hire me, life would be pretty darn good.
I've got a big batch of spaghetti sauce cooking in my crockpot, I'll freeze some of it and tonight's dinner will be spaghetti, fresh string beans and garlic bread. I'm getting hungry just thinking about it!
Now if you'll kindly excuse me, I'm off to go stir my sauce and play a few games on the computer.
